Tony LaRussa Virtually Hated 'Moneyball'

Game 6 around the globe Series was rained in St. Louis on Wednesday evening (it had been rescheduled for Thursday evening), which gave Cardinals manager -- and unsuccessful Bullpenfone user -- Tony LaRussa an opportunity to see 'Moneyball.' Again. Since he left the very first time. For non-baseball fans, LaRussa isn't totally enamored with the thought of stats-over-scouts, nor using the concepts presented in Michael Lewis's famous book about Concord Athletics GM Billy Beane. That being: on-base percentage (the action of making base via walk or hit or hit-by-pitch) -- and little manager interference -- is the road to winning baseball games. Stated LaRussa to put together reporters on Wednesday: "On-base percentage is among the most harmful concepts from the last seven, eight years since it forces some professionals and coaches and gamers to consider that it is all about making base by drawing walks," La Russa stated. "The truth is the men which have the very best on-base percentage are actually harmful players every time they obtain a help out the zone. Therefore if a pitcher recognizes that, he creates the perimeters. So now you ask , will they obtain a good pitch hitting?Inch LaRussa -- who had been the topic of their own hero-worship book by Buzz Bissinger known as 'Three Nights in August' -- apparently walked from the Kaira Pitt-brought Oscar contender the very first time he first viewed it like a tribute to "the scouts and baseball people who were dissed" through the film. When he first viewed it again on Wednesday evening, LaRussa did not appreciate it any more. He was "upset in what it symbolized," but did concede the film version of 'Moneyball' featured "good acting." For Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington -- who seems within the film since he was the A's third base and infield coach until 2006 -- his review was more kind. "In my experience it had been an excellent movie in regards to a manager hamstrung so far as dollars go. I recognize it did not mention [A's All-Star 3B Eric] Chavez, [2002 MVP Miguel] Tejada, [Tim] Hudson, [Craig] Zito and [Mark] Mulder. I loved the film,Inch Washington stated. "And i'm a large fan of Billy Beane's. He provided an chance to become a coach. I believe got this chance in Texas due to Beane's review. When I have always stated, stuff you accomplish in existence originates from others stretching a hands that will help you.Inch LaRussa has won two World Series game titles -Body with Concord, pre-Beane, and something with St. Louis in 2006. Trailing 3-2 in the very best of seven series, the Cardinals will attempt in the future from behind to provide LaRussa title No. 3 beginning tonight. Beane hasn't won a global Series throughout his tenure in Concord. [via SBNation.com] [Photo: The new sony/Getty] Follow Moviefone on Twitter Like Moviefone on Facebook RELATED
